No Sound

No sound on some channels, but still have video.

Problem

After visiting multiple channels, you have no sound on some Shaw Direct channels, but you can still see video.

Solutions

  • Check to be sure that Descriptive Video Services are not enabled on your receiver. This assisted ability service can sometimes result in a lack of audio when not in use. You can check to see if a program has Descriptive Video by looking for in the Interactive Programming guide. To disable or check Descriptive Video on your Shaw Direct receiver press Options, then 6 – System Setup, 4 – System Settings, then 1 – User Settings (Options 6-4-1). Highlight OFF in the Descriptive Video section and hit ENTER.
  • There may be a broadcaster error. Many channels are provided by the same parent network, and as such there may be a temporary issue at the network uplink which is causing a sound dropout. While rare, these occurrences are commonly solved very quickly.
