Satellite TV Rate Changes - Starting August 1, 2019

In 2019, we are continuing to invest in our network by adding more HD channels to our nearly all HD line-up which will be complete in early 2020. Starting August 1, 2019, rates for select Shaw Direct TV services will be increasing. Notification of this rate change will be included in your monthly invoice in June or July, depending on your billing cycle. If you are on an introductory offer or are a business contracted customer, this increase will not take effect until the introductory or contract rate ends.

How much is my rate increasing by?

In late June and July, you will find a message in your bill detailing the exact amount.

Why are rates going up?

This rate adjustment will support network and technology upgrades and the launch of more HD channels, so you have continued access to reliable programming infrastructure and more crystal-clear HD programming.

When will this rate adjustment start?

August 1, 2019.

When will I first see the increase on my bill? How will it look on my bill?

You’ll first see it on your July invoice, which will cover a service period of 30 days between July and August (ie: from July 14 to August 13.) You will be billed the current rate for days billed in July and the new rate for any days billed in August. This partial month of billing at the new rate will be clearly highlighted on page 2 of your invoice, highlighted as, “Programming Price Change (Prorated).”

For your August invoice, you will be invoiced at the new rates for a full 30-day billing period.

Didn’t I already get a rate adjustment last December? I thought Shaw Direct would only increase rates once a year?

As programming costs rise, we increase our rates accordingly to ensure we’re able to continue providing an exceptional content experience while investing in the ongoing enhancement of Shaw Direct’s products and services.

Is the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) involved in regulating Shaw service rates?

The CRTC is not involved in setting Shaw Direct rates. Shaw Direct is solely accountable for all changes made to our pricing.
