IR/RF 600 Remote Control Overview

Compatible with all Shaw Direct satellite set-top boxes, consolidate three remotes into one with the IR/RF 600. The IR/RF 600 Remote Controls are simple to program, easy to use, and can operate up to three (3) devices: satellite set-top boxes, TVs, and AUX devices (e.g., DVD, VCR, audio receivers/amplifiers, CD players, 2nd TVs, etc.).

How to program your IR/RF 600 remote to your satellite set-top box

Some Shaw Direct set-top boxes have the capability of receiving remote commands across large distances and through walls using their UHF antennas. To keep the Shaw Direct remotes from interfering with each other, it’s possible to set a custom remote address for the remote control. See the article "My set-top box changes channels itself" for more information.

For the set-top boxes to accept any remote address other that 000, you will need to change the corresponding address on the set-top box.

To change the address, go to "Menu", then "Preferences", expand "Hardware Settings", and select "Remote Control Address".

  1. Press and hold "ENTER" and "MUTE" until the mode buttons flash in rotation.
  2. Enter the remote code:

    Set-top box Codes

    000

    001

    002

    003

    004

    005

    006

    007

  3. Press "ENTER". The mode buttons should flash twice.
  4. Press "Guide" to confirm the code was successful.

After entering one of the above codes, press the "POWER" button to see if the set-top box turns off. If not, repeat Steps 1-3 using a different code, until the set-top box does respond.

Scanning programming method for other devices

  1. Ensure the device you want to control is powered on.
  2. Press and hold "ENTER" and "MUTE" until the mode buttons flash in rotation.
  3. While aiming the remote at the device, press and hold the "UP" arrow button until the device turns off.
  4. Press "MUTE", once. The device should power back on.
  5. If it doesn't, turn the device back on manually and repeat Steps 3 and 4.
  6. Press "ENTER" to lock in the code if the device turned on.
  7. Test "VOLUME +/-" and "POWER" on/off to ensure you do not have a partial code.

How to program the master volume feature

Master volume allows the remote to default volume controls to a device other than the satellite set-top box.

Note: The TV code must be programmed into the remote before performing the above steps.

To enable master volume:

  1. Hold both "ENTER" and "SAT" until the SAT button illuminates.
  2. Press "VOLUME UP" , then "TV". The SAT button will blink three (3) times and go out.
  3. Press the device key (TV or AUX) to lock volume to the selected device. The device key will blink twice.

To disable master volume:

  1. Press and hold "ENTER" and "SAT" buttons at the same time.
  2. Once the SAT button flashes, release the buttons.
  3. Press "VOLUME UP". The SAT button will blink three (3) times.
  4. Press the "SAT" button to control the volume of it.

How to program the master power feature

Master power changes the power button functionality to toggle power on several devices at once.

Note: The codes must be programmed into the remote before performing the below steps. When programming master power, you must select the devices you wish to turn on and off and in what order. On this type of remote, master power will control all programmed devices with a quick button press. The device keys at the top of the remote will flash in sequence. This is easier for some customers but can be confusing for those who have one device that is on and another that is off.

    To enable master power:

    1. Hold both "ENTER" and "POWER" until the SAT button illuminates solid red.
    2. Press "1". SAT will blink three (3) times and go out.
    3. Press "SAT" once to return the remote to SAT mode.
    4. Press "POWER" to save the sequence. The SAT key should blink twice.

    To disable master power:

    1. Hold both "ENTER" and "POWER" until the SAT button illuminates solid red.
    2. Press "0". SAT will blink three (3) times and go out.
    3. Press "SAT" once to return the remote to SAT mode.

Troubleshooting your IR/RF 600 remote control

      Can’t control the set-top box?

      1. Press and hold the "ENTER/OK" button on the remote.
      2. If the incorrect device key glows, press the SAT button on the remote and try again.
      3. If no buttons flash, try changing the batteries of the remote.
      4. If the SAT button glows but no lights flash on the set-top box, it’s possible the remote is on the wrong address. Try changing the remote address to match the set-top box address.
      5. If the SAT button glows and a light flashes on the set-top box but no message pops up on the TV screen, it’s possible that the issue is with the input rather than the remote.

      Can’t program the volume?

      1. Verify if the TV code is programmed into the remote. Press the volume button. The TV light should light up and a volume bar should appear on the television screen.
      2. If the TV light illuminates when the volume button is pressed but you still have no volume control, this indicates that the TV code needs to be programmed into the remote control.

No lights or steady lights on your Shaw Direct remote control? Does it only work intermittently?

      1. Try a new set of batteries.
      2. Verify if any keys are pressed in too deep. In some cases, with this model of remote, the buttons may get stuck.
      3. Remove the batteries from the remote control, wipe the interior metal connectors with a tissue or cotton swab, then return the batteries to their slots. Verify if light turns on when keys are pressed on the remote control.
