What is LPIF?

The Local Programming Improvement Fund

In September, 2009, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) created a Local Programming Improvement Fund (LPIF). The CRTC stipulated that 1.5% of cable and satellite gross broadcasting revenues be contributed to the fund, which is intended to subsidize the production of local TV programming. Since September, 2009, Shaw Direct has been paying this fee on behalf of our customers. As of April 1, 2011, this fee will now be a part of your monthly bill. Should the LPIF percentage be reduced or eliminated, Shaw Direct will immediately do the same.
